Vancouver Island singer/songwriter, Marilyn Smith is a seasoned entertainer. Performing since the 80’s, she is at home on any stage and gives 100% to her audience, sharing her perceptions with a pristine voice and unpretentious manner. Her songs are sturdy, melodic and heartfelt. Heavily inspired by the music of the 70’s and 80’s her writing has similarities to that of artists such as Roseanne Cash, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell. Before settling on the Island, Marilyn toured western Canada's country bar scene throughout British Columbia, the Yukon, and Washington State for over 10 years. She was a finalist in the CFOX/Vancouver Seeds songwriting competition for 2 consecutive years. Although her music career was showing signs of promise and her songs gaining her considerable interest, Marilyn chose to give up traveling for a while to stay home and raise a family, a decision she does not regret. Now several years later, she finds herself performing again, unable to stay away from what she loves to do, and the writing follows, this time with more complexity and maturity. In 2008 she recorded the album, “Cradle of Secrets” with award winning Producer, John Macarthur Ellis...in it she speaks of the passage of time, of self realization, of love lost and love found...
